The Refusal

We refuse the lie. We refuse the crown. We refuse to watch them burn it down.

About this anthem

The Refusal is not one more track in rotation on Righteous Fire. It is the block’s identity written as a song. Every mission line the segment opens with, anger with a conscience, refusal with a backbone, is the exact language this anthem sings back at the listener as a chorus.

Righteous Fire is built on a specific arc: warning, exposure, betrayal, consequence, and then, deliberately, refusal that turns into organized resistance rather than despair. Most songs in the block carry one piece of that arc. The Refusal carries the whole thing at once. It names the lie dressed in a flag, the crown placed on a thief, the mercy turned into “enemy lines,” and then answers every one of them with the same word: refuse. That is the block’s discipline in miniature, anger that names the wound precisely enough to demand a response, not anger that just makes noise.

What makes it the segment’s anchor track rather than just another entry is the bridge. “This is not a riot. This is memory with a spine.” That single line is the difference Righteous Fire insists on every time it airs, between anger that destroys and anger that protects. The song carries the names, the child at the border, the mother in debt, the veteran waiting, the same people the rest of the block’s programming spends its hours documenting by name and by harm.

It closes the way the segment is built to close, not in exhaustion but in resolve. “We will not go quietly. We are not afraid. We refuse.” is Righteous Fire’s exit charge in three sentences, the reminder that refusal itself is a civic act, and that the listener leaving the block is meant to carry that refusal out the door with them.

Lyrics

Intro

They told us to lower our voices. They told us to wait our turn. They told us to trust the fire while they watched the country burn.

But there comes a line in the ashes where fear has to answer to truth.

Tonight, we stand on that line.

Verse 1

They dressed up the lie in a flag and a prayer, sold us the smoke and called it clean air. Put a crown on a thief, put a price on the law, then asked why the people still remember what they saw.

They turned the poor into warning signs, turned mercy into enemy lines. Told the sick to wait, told the hungry to pray, while the rich took the road and stripped the bridge away.

Pre-Chorus

But the ground still knows where the bodies fell. And the bells still ring from the courthouse bell.
We are not confused. We are not bowed. Say it low. Say it loud.

Chorus

We refuse the lie. We refuse the crown. We refuse to watch them burn it down.

We refuse the fear. We refuse the chain. We refuse to let them profit from the pain.

No more silence. No more shame. No more kneeling to a broken name.

We refuse the lie. We refuse the crown. We refuse to watch them burn it down.

Verse 2

They called it strength when they taught men to hate, called it law when they locked up the gate. Called it faith when they stepped over the weak, with a Bible in hand and blood on their feet.

They laughed at the child with nowhere to sleep, mocked the old when the medicine got too steep. Took the worker’s wage, took the veteran’s care, then saluted the flag like honor was there.

Pre-Chorus

But honor is not a pose or a song. And power is not right just because it is strong.

We are not fooled. We are not owned. We are the fire they could not control.

Bridge

This is not a riot. This is memory with a spine. This is not chaos. This is a people drawing lines.

We carry the names. We carry the cost. We carry the truth of everything lost.

For the child at the border. For the mother in debt. For the veteran waiting. For the prisoner left.

For the worker exploited. For the teacher worn thin. For the vote they keep trying to bury again.

We are not here to beg. We are not here to bow. We are not here tomorrow. We are here right now.

Build

No crown over conscience. No king over law. No profit from suffering. No silence at all.

No throne in the White House. No fear in the street. No preacher of cruelty gets peace at our feet.

No billionaire mercy. No bought-out truth. No future surrendered by the old or the youth.

Final Chorus

We refuse the lie. We refuse the crown. We refuse to watch them burn it down.

We refuse the fear. We refuse the chain. We refuse to let them profit from the pain.

No more silence. No more shame. No more kneeling to a broken name.

We refuse the lie. We refuse the crown. We refuse to watch them burn it down.
